- When making the relay play: hit your cutoff. Aim throw at the head.
- Be aware that runners can tag-up on a foul ball. So, runner on 3rd anything ball you have go back to get, let it drop.
- Right fielders: If possible get the out at first base on a hard ground ball.
- Know what to do when a ball is under or caught in the fence.
- Hustle on and off the field.
- See the ball off the bat, and anticipate the direction the ball is going.
- Get a pre-pitch so your body is already in motion (Example: step left-right-left).
- Know the hitters, by asking what they have done at previous at bats.
- There is always backing up to do either another out fielder or a base.
- Outfielders have priority on fly balls over infield, and center field has priority over left and right: if they are camped out under the ball let them make the play.
- Think field the ball or catch the ball first them think throw.
- Get into throwing position before catching a fly ball.
- Communicate, communicate, communicate on every ball. Let the other players know who is fielding the ball or where the ball needs to be thrown.
- Do not hold the ball get it in to the infield. If you unsure where to throw it too, throw it to your cutoff.
- If sun is in you eye wear a cap, sunglasses, use your hand or glove to cover the sun when making a catch.
- Be aware of all weather and field conditions: holes, rain, wind, fences, foul lines.
- Learn to play the fences. Reach out with bare hand to find it and even to use it as support.
- Freeze on line drives.
